Abstract :

Gestational diabetes: it is one type of diabetes that affects pregnant women and
leads to consequences for mothers and their children, the problem is increasing
in developing countries, including Iraq.

The aim of this study is: to know some factors related to gestational diabetes for
women in holy Karbala city.

Methods: a descriptive study was conducted in which (25) cases of gestational
diabetes were randomly selected after confirming the diagnosis, they were
reviewed by the obstetrics and maternity hospital in the holy governorate of
Kerbala.( 25) women were randomly selected for the same hospital. they do not
have gestational diabetes, the stability of the research tool was determined by a
committee composed of (6) experts and the credibility of the research tool was
determined by a sample of experimental (10),This study was conducted for the
period from the beginning of October 2017 to the end of April 2018, The data
were collected through the interview through a questionnaire containing
information on the risk factors associated with gestational diabetes.

Results: The study was show a relationship between some factors related to
gestational diabetes and the incidence of the disease, including (educational
level, abortion, type of delivery , and history of gestational diabetes).

Recommendations: The study recommended the need to organize awareness
seminars for pregnant women, and the early examination of gestational
diabetes before (13) week of pregnancy.
