Abstract

A descriptive quantitative design is used to assess "Prevalence of smoking
behavior among primary school teachers in holy kerbala city ""This study
was carried out to achieve the stated goals: The study began from 4/10/2018
to 29/5/2019. A prospective sample of (200) teachers in primary schools.The
reliability of the questionnaire was determined by the experimental study
and the alpha-cronbach coefficient was calculated. And validity identified
through a committee of (5) experts. The data of this study were analyzed
through the use of a statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version
(20). Statistical analysis methods were used (analysis of metadata,
frequencies (f), percentages (%), mean scores( This study shows that the
majority of the study sample is male., and 42.3% of study sample have age
between 36-46. In addition that about (67.2%) of study sample are diploma,
and (25.9%) of study sample are arabic, and 29.4% of them have year of
experience between 12-16years. In addition that about 37.3% of study
sample are hardly enough, and 87.6% of study sample are married, In
addition that about (94.0%) of study sample are urban, and the majority of
study sample (76.6%) non smoke, while 18.4% were smoking ,In addition
most smokers were smoking Cigarettes(12.4%),most of them start with
smoking more than one year(17.9%), also most of them smoking cigarettes
per day less than 21 cigarettes(6%) , This study recommends providing
issue of laws prohibiting smoking in schools because of its negative impact
on the teacher and student at the same time in cooperation with the
Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, as well as the Ministry of
Higher Education. effective smoking prevention program should take into
account within the dominant of socio-environmental influence to reduce
smoking behavior.
