The College of Nursing at the University of Kerbala discusses a master’s thesis for one of its students

 A master’s thesis was discussed at the College of Nursing at the University of Kerbala, entitled “Knowledge and attitudes of mothers regarding prevention and home treatment of diarrhea in children under the age of five in the eastern city of Hamza” by the student (Mohammed Jamil Wahhab), one of the graduate students at the College of Nursing at University of Kerbala for the academic year 2020-2021, which is Part of the requirements for obtaining a master’s degree in nursing sciences, which was supervised by the assistant professor, Dr. Salman Hussein Faris, the assistant dean for scientific affairs. This study aims to assess mothers’ knowledge and attitudes regarding prevention and home treatment of diarrhea in children under five years of age, and to find the relationship between knowledge and mothers’ attitudes and demographic data. The current study showed that most of the mothers had little knowledge about diarrhea prevention, and that most mothers gave wrong answers and little knowledge about home treatment for diarrhea, and the study indicated that (45.6%) of mothers had a low level of knowledge about diarrhea prevention and regarding the trends indicated The current study indicated that (63.2%) of mothers’ attitudes regarding prevention and home treatment of diarrhea were negative, and only (36.8%) were positive. The current study concluded that most mothers have a low level of knowledge about the prevention and home treatment of diarrhoea. Where most of them had negative attitudes regarding the prevention and home treatment of diarrhea, the knowledge and attitudes of the mother correlate with age, educational level and monthly income. Oral rehydration at home and preparation for it, promotion of appropriate nutrition during an episode of diarrhea and child feeding with further studies of parental practice regarding home treatment of diarrhea in children under five years of age.
